Saltscape is an exciting new project to protect, enhance and celebrate the unique salt landscape of the Weaver Valley in mid-Cheshire. The Saltscape extends along the Weaver Valley in Cheshire from Frodsham in the North to the salt towns of Northwich, Winsford and Middlewich in the South. It is one of Cheshire’s best kept secrets!
The Saltscape Vision
- To protect, restore, enhance and manage this unique place as one environment
- Reconnect people with their landscape and heritage
- Make the area a better place to work, live and visit
Making it happen
Over the next three years over £1.4m will be invested in the Weaver Valley to achieve this vision.
There are 4 project areas.
Salt Legacy – restoring and protecting the natural and built features
Salt People – engaging with people to ensure the long term success of the project
Salt Way – making the salt landscape accessible to people
Salt Skills – developing specialist skills in the community
We are going to be working with the local community to teach multimedia skills to young people. Participants will use the new skills they have learnt to creatively to record, interpret and communicate the activities and products of the partnership projects.
It is envisaged that there will be a range of items arising from individual projects but that some will be specially commissioned for example, thematic trails and tours; digital media productions including film and video; educational items for all ages. This media will be used as a resource to inform the wider community of the heritage of the salt landscape.
